About COAN

The Central Ohio Chapter of the OU Alumni Association is organized as a network of separate groups that, as a whole, compose a network of groups. Hence, the Central Ohio Alumni Network or “COAN". The groups are divided into categories of common interest. They are:

  • Young Alumni – An active group with membership of all ages, one must at least beyoung at heart. Happy Hours, volunteering, and professional development events are organized by this group.

  • Master Alumni – A group of our more “venerable” alumni whose programming includes dinners, family friendly gatherings, and participation in some Young Alumni events.

  • Athletics – A committee which organizes game watches in Columbus and coordinates trips back to OU for Fall and Winter Homecomings.

  • Societies – This committee meets periodically with representatives from Alumni Societies active in the Columbus area and coordinate calendars and events.

  • Scholarship – Most of the events planned by COAN groups benefit the Central Ohio Scholarship Endowment Fund. This fund is used to provide a $1,000 4-year renewable scholarship to one high school senior from the Central Ohio region who has a relative who is an OU Alum.

While each group from the network is self-governing, a representative from each serves on the board of COAN. Also serving on the board is a number of executives (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer). The executives are responsible for ensuring the network functions and coordinates events/programming. Significant decisions are made by board vote.

Monthly meetings are open to the public and are held the first Monday of every month at Rooster's (3370 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 3370 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH) at 6 p.m.

Make A Gift to Support Our Scholarship

The Central Ohio Chapter Ohio University Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship was established in 1994 and provides for a $1,000 continuing award to an incoming first year student to the Athens campus who is a son or daughter of a Central Ohio alum. Currently we provide annually $4,000 each year assisting four continuing students.

Due to market conditions, especially this year, the amount of principle we are allocated to spend on scholarship each year is much less than the $4,000 we require to maintain four scholarships. Each year, the chapter has been supplementing this scholarship shortfall with an average of $2,500 out of our treasury. We will need to continue to raise this amount until our endowment reaches a level where annual returns equal or exceed $4,000.

Long term, we will need to add $60,000 to our investment principle account to ensure $4,000 will be allocated annually to our
spending account eliminating the need for the chapter to support this scholarship from our treasury.
